William Carey University was founded in the year 1906 as Mississippi Woman's College. In the year 1954 he name of the college was changed to William Carey College. It was also the time for the college to becoem coeducational. The William Carey University was named after the Englishman William Carey D.D. who according to many was the founder of the modern protestant Evangelical missions. On 14th August in the year 2006 William Carey college celebrated its centenary. This celebration also marked the transition of the William Carey college to William Carey University.
